Saving the Best for Last
I'm going to talk to you out of John 2 tonight. This is often referred to as Jesus' first miracle in the gospels. The gospels don't tell much of Jesus' pre-ministry time before his fast in the desert apart from his blessing by Simeon when a young child and being found by his parents in the temple at age twelve. As such, this passage to our knowledge is Jesus' first miracle ever performed in his lifetime. In this passage, we hear the story of Jesus performing a miracle where he turned water to wine after the wedding had run out of wine. An attendant, astonished at the quality of the wine and not knowing of Jesus' miracle, exclaimed "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now." The best wine that day was saved for the last, and I believe that similarly the best portion of God's outpouring can be saved for these latter times.
